Nioxin is a brand-name collection of 8 different hair treatment "systems".
These systems that are designed to prevent hair loss while adding density [or the appearance of density] to thinning hair.
The systems can include a cleanser (shampoo), conditioner, follicle spray, vitamins, etc.

Does Nioxin Work?
In general, yes. But it depends on a few things.
It primarily depends on what is causing your hair loss.
Nioxin will likely improve your hair growth.
Several of the ingredients in the cleansers, follicle spray and vitamin complexes are clinically proven to help promote a favorable environment for hair growth when compared to placebo or in the event of nutritional deficiencies.
Clinically proven ingredients include (but are not limited to): Cyanocobalamin, Biotin, Niacin, CoEnzyme A.
Nioxin will likely give you the appearance of thicker hair.
Most people that use [at least] the Nioxin cleanser or conditioner perceive a thickening effect.
In my personal experience, my hair appears thicker when compared to other shampoo.
The majority of the reviews on this website are very positive and confirm this "thickening effect".
Nioxin can be effective at preventing hair loss and stimulating regrowth in women.
Nioxin will not likely be effective at preventing hair loss in men.*
Nioxin Intensive Therapy Recharging Complex and the Nioxin Hair Treatment systems appear to address potential nutritional deficiencies that are most-often characteristic of female non-androgenic alopecia.
This can result in hair REGROWTH in females because hair follicles still active and are not miniaturized.
Nioxin will not likely have this effect for males unfortunately. (still, there are several males who swear by Nioxin)
Nioxin does not contain ANY ingredients that are clinically proven to remove DHT from scalp hair.
DHT is the primary cause of hair loss in males. Nioxin does not address this hormonal pathway.

For Males:
Personally, I don't think that you need to purchase the entire Nioxin system.
The additional follicle spray smells good and won't hurt - I just don't think it's necessary. If you have the time and money, by all means - try the complete system.
For starters, for males, I recommend that you simply try the cleanser and conditioner, without buying the entire system.
Remember, Nioxin won't help prevent male pattern baldness.
These ketoconazole shampoos will however.
It will make your hair grow faster and appear thicker.
For Females:
Females may benefit from the entire Nioxin system and seem to legitimately experience hair regrowth from the Nioxin, the girl in the video [to the right] makes her suggestions based on her experience.
